SITE ASSESSMENT ACTIVITIES

Waste Characterization Activities

At several of Innovative’s project sites, including those where a BEA has been completed and submitted, waste chemical are often left discarded and/or abandoned.  Innovative provides waste characterization services to determine the type of waste present, whether it’s hazardous or non-hazardous and what disposal facilities are available to perform a review of the waste characterization to determine if they can accept the material.  Innovative’s waste characterization activities include:

·       Waste stream identification and segregation;

·       Waste stream sampling and analytical testing;

·       Waste stream analytical results analysis to determine if the waste is hazardous or non-hazardous;

·      Completion of waste characterization Waste Profile Forms and submittal, along with the respective analytical results, to various licensed waste disposal facilities for consideration for pre-approval of disposal of one or more of the waste streams; and

·       Obtaining pre-approval disposal authorization number and completion of waste disposal manifests prior to the date the wastes are scheduled to be hauled offsite to the designated disposal facility.

Once the waste characterization activities are complete and the waste disposal activities scheduled, Innovative provides onsite supervisory documentation and waste manifest tracking activities.  In certain circumstances, when waste chemicals are left at a property when a party vacates the site in lieu of completing the waste characterization and disposal activities it is more appropriate to complete and submit, with the BEA Report, the MDEQ Discarded and Abandoned Containers form.  The discarded and Abandoned Containers form informs the RRD of the MDEQ of the containers, and in many cases, if there is no liable party still in business that generated the waste(s), the RRD of the MDEQ will utilize state funding to characterize and arrange for the proper disposal of the discarded and abandoned wastes.
